A pump mechanical seal must be selected by duty conditions. A seal for clean water is not automatically suitable for abrasive slurry or hot oil. Materials and Face Options

Common seal face materials include silicon carbide, tungsten carbide, carbon graphite, and alumina ceramic. Elastomer materials include NBR, FKM, EPDM, FFKM, and PTFE. Metal parts are available in stainless steel 304, stainless steel 316, and other alloys. The correct material set depends on fluid chemistry, temperature, pressure, abrasive content, and the selected seal type.

We do not use a single material combination for every pump seal. FKM is common in many industrial pumps but can be attacked by some chemicals and steam. EPDM is not suitable for most mineral oil and hydrocarbon services. The seal face pair must also match the lubrication and abrasive conditions. Replacement Pump Mechanical Seals

When you send an existing seal drawing or type code, we check the shaft diameter, seal chamber bore, axial space, face material, elastomer, and metal part grade.

Do not rely only on seal type codes from old drawings. Some type codes are not consistent between manufacturers. A photo of the seal face, seat, spring, and housing is useful. If you do not have a drawing, send clear photos of the old seal, the pump shaft, and the seal chamber.
